Founded in 2008, the company specializes in content rights, functioning as an independent film production and distribution studio. It operates as a connection between the Chinese domestic film industry and international theatrical markets, focusing on financing, producing, and distributing high-budget, commercial multilingual motion pictures for both localized Chinese audiences and global markets. In September 2016, the firm acquired a 27.9% stake in Luc Besson's French studio, EuropaCorp, for approximately $67 million, becoming the second-largest shareholder in that company. Over its operational history, the studio has backed, co-produced, and distributed various action, science-fiction, and thriller features, including Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Transporter Refueled, The Warriors Gate, 24 Hours to Live, Nine Lives, and Replicas.
