The German Football League (GFL) is a privately owned sports league based in Germany. It was founded in 1979 and is the highest level of American football competition in the country. The league consists of 16 teams divided into two conferences, North and South. The regular season runs from April to September, with each team playing 14 games. The top four teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs, which culminate in the German Bowl, the championship game of the GFL. The league is governed by the German Football Federation (AFVD) and has its headquarters in Frankfurt.
