Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, also known as MSI, is a privately owned, non-profit organization headquartered in the US. Founded in 1933, the institution operates as a private, non-profit science museum, employing approximately 440 individuals. Located in Jackson Park in Chicago, Illinois, adjacent to Lake Michigan and the University of Chicago campus, the museum is housed within the historic Palace of Fine Arts, a structure from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. The museum, formally known as Museum of Science and Industry, opened in 1933 during the Century of Progress Exposition, with initial endowment provided by Sears, Roebuck and Company president Julius Rosenwald and ongoing support from the Commercial Club of Chicago.
