On September 5, the newly elected Executive Committee of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) held its first official meeting in Taranto, the day after the Closing Ceremony, where new ICMG President Francesco Purromuto outlined a new vision for the Mediterranean Movement. Earlier the same day, a symbolic journey commenced from the Capo San Vito Lighthouse in Taranto to Portimão, connecting the two locations by car and boat, to represent the handover from the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games to the Portimão-Lagoa 2027 Mediterranean Beach Games. This followed the Closing Ceremony for the Taranto 2026 Games on September 4, inside the renovated Stadio Erasmo Iacovone, which included a symbolic handover to Prishtina 2030, marking the conclusion of twelve days of competition. Previously, on September 3, the Taranto 2026 Organising Committee and the ICMG held the final press conference, recognizing the Games' lasting legacy and its transformation of the city of Taranto.
