James Madison University (JMU) is a state-owned public research university located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Founded in 1908 as a normal school and teacher's college, it was renamed in 1938 in honor of James Madison. The university, with a current headcount of approximately 6,790, has since evolved into a comprehensive institution offering a wider range of academic programs. Its campus is situated in the Shenandoah Valley near Massanutten Mountain.
