Established by the Georgia Board of Regents through local bonds and federal funding, it operates two campuses spanning 581 acres in the Atlanta metropolitan area (Kennesaw and Marietta). The university currently employs approximately 7140 people. Its founding coincided with a period of significant economic growth in Georgia following World War II.
