Korek Telecom, a privately owned Iraqi company founded in 2000, provides GSM mobile telecommunications services. Initially granted a five-year exclusive license in 2000 to operate in Erbil and Duhok governorates of Iraqi Kurdistan, serving a population of approximately 2.5 million, Korek Telecom subsequently secured a national mobile license in August 2007. The company currently employs approximately 1920 people.
