Previously, on September 2, 2026, Latvian Economy Minister Viktors Valainis stated the caretaker government would not complete the deal to acquire shares in LMT and Tet from Telia during its current term. Valainis indicated the technocratic government deemed itself unable to make such a significant decision, focusing instead on preparing the deal. Earlier, on August 23, 2026, LMT reported mobile communication disruptions impacting 3% of its customer connections, primarily in Latgale, Zemgale, and eastern Kurzeme, after a storm. This followed LMT's confirmation on August 7, 2026, that it joined the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking's (SNS JU) Advisory Group, becoming one of 16 entities working on 6G implementation and participating in two major SNS JU initiatives.
