News Summary:

Finnish operator Elisa announced on March 3 that Schibsted Media company MTV terminated their distribution agreement for MTV's free-to-air channels, including MTV3, MTV Sub, and MTV Ava. This could result in these channels becoming unavailable live on Elisa Viihte and Elisa's cable television service from May 13, absent a new deal, though recordings and access via pay-TV and MTV Katsomo services would remain possible after May 12. More recently, on March 30, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante backed Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan's theory that rock music was deliberately sidelined in the late 1990s, describing the shift as a "coup." This followed Corgan's initial assertion on March 18, alleging that the music industry intentionally muted rock music, specifically noting a pivotal shift at MTV around 1997-1998. Earlier, on March 29, a retrospective highlighted Neil Young's 1988 song “This Note’s For You” and its controversial video, which challenged corporate rock and MTV's practices.
