Optage is a privately owned company headquartered in Japan, founded in 1988, with approximately 2,770 employees. The company functions as a telecommunications provider, offering mobile, internet, and TV services.
Japanese fiber operator Optage began operations at its new carrier-neutral Sonezaki Data Centre (OC1) in central Osaka on February 3, 2026. This facility is designed to redistribute domestic network traffic away from the Tokyo metropolitan area and bolster national business continuity through high external connectivity to major domestic internet exchanges and service providers. Previously, on January 29, Optage, a subsidiary of the Kansai Electric Power Group, completed the Osaka City data center and opened it to the press. President Masahiko Nabue characterized the initiative as making Kansai a second hub for Optage's "nationwide and worldwide" presence, with the facility in Osaka Umeda serving as a crucial communication infrastructure hub, equipped with large-capacity power supplies and lines to safeguard IT systems. Also on January 29, the company debuted a new "eo CM" television commercial with Ryohei Suzuki, promoting its 10 Gbps eo Ready service and highlighting its "eo" residential lines' No.1 market share in Kansai, where over 90% of customers choose the ultra-high-speed course.
