Optage is a privately owned company headquartered in Japan, founded in 1988, with approximately 2,770 employees. The company functions as a telecommunications provider, offering mobile, internet, and TV services.
Optage began operations on February 3, 2026, at its new urban connectivity data centre, the Optage Sonezaki Data Centre (OC1), in central Osaka. The Japanese fibre operator aims to redistribute domestic network traffic away from the Tokyo metropolitan area and strengthen national business continuity, positioning OC1 as a carrier-neutral facility with high external connectivity to major domestic internet exchanges, network operators, and internet service providers. Earlier on January 29, Optage launched a new commercial, "eo CM," featuring Ryohei Suzuki, promoting its 10 Gbps eo Ready service. The company noted that its "eo" service holds the number one share for Kansai residential lines, with over 90% of customers opting for the ultra-high-speed course. This follows Optage's completion and opening of the Osaka data center to the press on the same day, January 29. President Masahiko Nabue articulated the company's strategy to establish Kansai as a "second hub" for its nationwide and worldwide operations. The facility, part of the Kansai Electric Power Group and located in Osaka's Kita-ku (Umeda), is designed to support communication infrastructure, storing and managing internet data, and protecting corporate IT systems and data from disasters through its large-capacity power supplies and lines.
