OptiTrack is a privately owned company headquartered in the US, founded in 1996 and employing approximately 40 individuals. The company specializes in creating 3D motion capture and tracking hardware and software, with its main product focus being animation and post-production.
On January 26, 2026, OptiTrack announced its 260 X-Series camera family, which includes the Primeˣ 260 and Slimˣ 260, designed for large-volume environments. These new cameras feature 26 Megapixel sensors and provide ±0.050 mm 3D accuracy, supporting passive tracking up to 40m and active tracking up to 91m. Previously, on December 4, 2025, OptiTrack's PrimeX 120 camera system powered the high-speed, high-G tracking in Mark Rober's engineering video, which featured Cristiano Ronaldo taking penalty kicks against a robot goalie. Earlier, from August 11-14, 2025, OptiTrack demonstrated its new simultaneous markered and markerless motion capture (mocap) solution at SIGGRAPH. This patent-pending solution, made possible by the recently launched Duplex Mode in OptiTrack’s Motive tracking software, aligns the precision marker-based tracking of OptiTrack cameras with Captury’s real-time markerless tracking technology, which is driven by machine learning.
