Radio Vaticana (also known as Statio Radiophonica Vaticana) is a state-owned broadcasting service of Vatican City, founded in 1931 by Guglielmo Marconi. Employing approximately 100 people, it produces programming in 47 languages, distributed via shortwave, DRM, medium wave, FM, satellite, and the internet. Its annual revenue is less than $25 million (2023 data). Historically maintained by the Jesuit Order, Radio Vaticana maintained its operational independence during the periods of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany.
On September 5, Pope Leo XIV inaugurated Borgo Laudato Si’ in Castel Gandolfo, a development focused on environmental care inspired by Pope Francis' 2015 encyclical. Singers Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo participated in the inauguration. Separately, on September 16, the Holy See reaffirmed its position on nuclear weapons. Msgr. Daniel Pacho addressed the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stating that the increase in military spending constitutes an affront to humanity and emphasizing the moral imperative of ensuring the peaceful use of nuclear energy while preventing nuclear weapon proliferation. From September 11-12, a meeting organized by the Council of Higher Studies of the Pontifical Academy of Theology took place at the Casina Pio IV in the Vatican, involving religious, business, social, and cultural experts. Cardinal Pietro Parolin opened the event.
