The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is a non-profit institution founded in 1917 offering higher education in music. Headquartered in the United States, it employs approximately 330 people.
The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) welcomed Patti Niemi to its percussion faculty in fall 2025. Niemi is the Acting Principal Percussionist of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, a position she has held since 1992. On August 25th, KQED reported that in early March 2025, SFCM and the San Francisco Symphony paused the Emerging Black Composers Project due to a Department of Education memo advising against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. SFCM also hosted guest artists who shared their expertise with student musicians; details of these events were to be announced later. Additionally, alumnus Gyan Riley, who graduated in 2001, recently completed a tour with Paul Simon.
