On August 3, 2026, SB Payment Service (SBPS), a core subsidiary of Japan's SoftBank Group, announced an agreement with a fund under Blackstone Group to acquire shares of the parent company of SP.LINKS (formerly Sony Payment Services). Following the transaction's completion, SP.LINKS will become a subsidiary of SBPS. Previously, on June 25, 2026, SBPS, a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. and a core company in its finance business, partnered with Riskified to accelerate revenue growth for e-commerce merchants by improving authorization approval rates and increasing sales under mandatory EMV 3D Secure requirements. Earlier in 2026, on January 29, SB Payment Service, described as one of Japan’s largest payment service providers and aggregators, handled over five times its system capacity, supporting various customers with online and in-store payment solutions, including SoftBank's carrier billing service “SoftBank Collective Payment” and the VISA-branded “SoftBank Card.” This followed the company's decision on June 20, 2025, to adopt the VMware Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry to scale its applications and manage the increasing demand for cashless payments in Japan.
