The Southern Conference (SoCon) is a privately owned collegiate athletic conference founded in 1921 and affiliated with the NCAA Division I. As of 2023, it employs approximately 30 people and generates less than $10 million in annual revenue. Its member institutions are located across six southeastern US states: Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The SoCon's football teams compete in the Football Championship Subdivision, and the conference is among the oldest in the US, holding a position among the top five oldest major college athletic conferences and either third or fourth oldest in continuous operation.
