On April 20, 2026, Telmex workers denounced the terms of a new 30-year concession granted to the company by the Mexican government, asserting these terms violate their labor rights. Earlier, on February 19, Telmex announced plans to implement fiber optic upgrades and establish four new free internet access points in Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, in an effort to bridge the digital divide. This development followed a February 3 confirmation from Carlos Slim Helú that the Mexican government had expanded Teléfonos de México's concession, securing the company's operational rights for an additional 30 years.
