Thales Alenia Space, a privately owned company founded in 2007, is a joint venture between Thales Group (France) and Leonardo (Italy). Employing approximately 6,980 people with headquarters in France, the company manufactures components for the aviation and aerospace industries. Its products and services encompass a range of applications including telecommunications, navigation systems, Earth observation, environmental monitoring, space exploration, scientific research, and orbital infrastructure development.
Thales Alenia Space integrated dSPACE’s TargetLink into the development process for onboard computer software in July 2013. This approach benefited two projects. In September 2025, Redwire Corporation announced an agreement with Thales Alenia Space to become the prime contractor for the Skimsat mission, with Thales Alenia Space having previously coordinated the preliminary study. The European Space Agency supports this project. Thales Alenia Space will provide the electric propulsion subsystem for Skimsat, which will use Redwire’s Phantom spacecraft platform.
