Previously, on September 29, 2025, French telecom authority Arcep began a consultation seeking input on the future use of L-band frequencies, as current licenses held by Thuraya Telecommunications, Inmarsat Global, Globalstar Europe, and Iridium for satellite services in the 1518-1559 MHz, 1610-1660.5 MHz, and 2483.5-2500 MHz ranges are set to expire between 2027 and 2030.
