News Summary:

On September 11, 2026, India's Digital Communications Commission (DCC) approved the spectrum allocation recommendations made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), clearing the way for global low-earth-orbit satellite players such as Eutelsat OneWeb, Starlink, and Reliance Jio to move closer to launching commercial satellite broadband services in the country. Previously, on September 10, Eutelsat announced it would replenish and expand its OneWeb network through 2034, following the signing of a €1 billion ($1.16 billion) deal with Airbus for 229 additional low Earth orbit satellites. This new order will supplement the 440 Airbus-built satellites ordered in 2024 and 2025. This also follows an earlier report on September 10 that the DCC had approved most of TRAI’s recommendations on satellite spectrum allocation. Earlier, on September 9, Eutelsat's OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity began supporting the French Navy's Frégate Guépratte, providing operational connectivity for both mission-critical operations and daily crew life at sea.
