Toei Animation, a publicly owned company headquartered in Japan, was founded in 1948, employs approximately 850 individuals, and reported $626.5M in revenue as of 2025, functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The company specializes in content rights, operating as a vertically integrated mass media film studio, animation studio, and intellectual property incubator. Originally founded as Japan Animated Films by Kenzō Masaoka and Sanae Yamamoto, the enterprise was acquired by Toei Company, Ltd. in 1956 and subsequently rebranded from Toei Doga Co., Ltd. to its current trade name in 1998. The corporation operates an international network through wholly owned subsidiaries, including Toei Animation Europe S.A.S. in Paris, Toei Animation Enterprise Limited in Hong Kong, and regional structures in Shanghai and Los Angeles, in addition to its primary physical production hub, the Oizumi Studio in Nerima, Tokyo, and offshore animation engine, Toei Animation Phils., Inc. Under the executive leadership of President Katsuhiro Takagi and Chairman Kozo Morishita, the studio controls a proprietary intellectual property repository that has shaped the landscape of Japanese animation (anime), notably in the magical girl and super robot genres. Its entertainment catalogue and multi-market franchise library include the Dragon Ball franchise (spanning Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Daima), One Piece, the Pretty Cure (Precure) franchise, Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac), Digimon, Slam Dunk, GeGeGe no Kitarō, Mazinger Z, and Sally the Witch, alongside joint-ventures such as its co-production of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

Also on September 11, the company agreed to jointly produce 'The Storyteller: Dawn of Legend,' a new animated short film, with Nigerian animation studio CR Motion+ as part of the TAIDO Project. This follows a new strategic collaboration formed on September 10, where Toei Animation appointed Lionsgate as its North American distribution partner for new projects and the first stop for future co-productions.
