Universal Studios Japan (USJ), a privately owned entertainment provider headquartered in Japan, opened in Osaka on March 31, 2001. As one of six Universal Studios theme parks globally, it holds the distinction of being the first to launch outside the United States. USJ LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of NBCUniversal, operates the park. The company employs approximately 550 people. Founded in 1994, USJ's primary business is the operation of its theme park.
