Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand is a privately owned company headquartered in New Zealand. It is a subsidiary of WBD Networks (Discovery). Founded in 2004, the company operates linear channels in New Zealand and was previously known as MediaWorks TV.
On June 21, 2026, Discovery NZ, operating as Sky Free, missed Sky TV’s revenue target by $10 million. This followed Sky TV's acquisition of the company from Warner Bros. Discovery for $1 in mid-2025. Sky New Zealand rebranded Discovery NZ to Sky Free on August 14, 2025, concurrently with a chief media and data executive's departure in the wake of the acquisition. The acquisition officially completed on August 1, 2025, after Discovery NZ reported a NZ$77.6 million after-tax loss in 2024. Discovery NZ had also shut down Newshub in 2024, prior to its sale. Earlier, on August 8, 2025, the acquisition spurred speculation that Sky NZ, now combining free-to-air and pay-TV operations, could attract interest from entities like Fox News, which had previously explored the New Zealand media market.
