WJLA-TV is a privately owned television station in Washington, D.C., United States, which is affiliated with the ABC network. It is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and maintains studios in the District of Columbia, with a transmitter in Arlington, Virginia. The station first signed on the air on January 13, 1947, as WMAL-TV, and changed its call letters to WJLA-TV in 1953. It is the second-oldest television station in the Washington, D.C., market, after WTTG. WJLA-TV produces 43 hours of local news programming each week, more than any other station in the market. The station also operates a 24-hour local news channel, WJLA 24/7 News. WJLA-TV has a staff of approximately 250 employees.
