WordPress sites recently gained a standard method to interact with AI agents, with WordPress 6.9 introducing the Abilities API and WordPress 7.0 adding an AI Client to its core, according to an October 8 report. The official MCP Adapter plugin now converts registered abilities into Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools for use by any MCP client. Also on October 8, SSL Dragon cautioned that 61% of WordPress sites will operate on unsupported PHP 8.2 by January 1, 2027, without necessary upgrades. Earlier the same day, WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard requested funding for the project's security program from more than 30 major companies within the WordPress ecosystem, including GoDaddy, Newfold Digital, and Hostinger. This follows the October 6 release of WordPress version 7.1.3, an emergency patch that addressed seven security vulnerabilities and four program bugs in the platform's core. Notably, AI company Anthropic reported three of the vulnerabilities fixed in this patch.
