The market for IT services is grappling with a shift in artificial intelligence expectations, as companies face budget constraints and reassess the return on AI investments, according to a June 25 Horses for Sources report. This context emerges as major enterprises have begun pulling back on employee AI usage, reversing earlier encouragement, due to rapidly draining budgets and limited demonstrable returns. Amidst this backdrop, Mizuho trimmed its price target on Accenture on June 25, citing the company's weaker-than-expected fiscal 2026 guidance. This reevaluation of AI spending follows earlier reports on June 24 that companies are scrambling to curb employee "tokenmaxxing," realizing the high cost and low return of small AI tasks. Previously, on June 23, Accenture increased its fiscal year 2026 share repurchase program by $2 billion, raising the total expected repurchases to $7.5 billion, a 62% increase over the prior year. All repurchases are set to conclude by August 31, 2026, under the authority approved in September 2025.
