A subsidiary of GMA Network, it was founded in 1994. The company specializes in content rights, functioning as a key entity established to expand the cinematic capabilities of its parent commercial broadcasting conglomerate, GMA Network Inc. Historically operating as Cinemax Studios and GMA Films, GMA Pictures produces culturally significant and high-budget productions that have influenced modern Philippine cinema. Its filmography includes the 1998 biographical epic José Rizal, which at the time was the most expensive Filipino film ever produced and received multiple awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival, alongside titles such as Sa Pusod ng Dagat, Muro-Ami, Deathrow, Let the Love Begin, Ouija, and Firefly.
