Previously, on August 15, Indonesia opened its first university-based AI technology center, the UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC), in Yogyakarta. This collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, NVIDIA, and Universitas Gadjah Mada provides local researchers and students access to enterprise-grade accelerated computing. This opening on August 14 marked a strategic pivot for Indonesia to build sovereign AI talent pipelines rather than importing solutions. This follows the August 13 announcement that Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and Nvidia partnered with Indonesia's Gadjah Mada University to establish the university-based artificial intelligence center for research, computing, and talent development, under Indonesia's AI Center of Excellence initiative.
