International Military Sports Council, also known as CISM, is a privately owned international sports association headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Established in 1948, the organization operates with approximately 40 employees. Functioning as the world's second-largest multi-discipline sports organization after the International Olympic Committee, CISM specializes in athletics and multi-discipline sports. It holds more than 20 competitions annually, enabling soldiers from its 140 member countries who may previously have met on the battlefield to compete on the sports playing field. CISM organizes various sporting events, including the Military World Games and World Military Championships, for the armed forces of these member countries.
On August 17, 2026, the first two competition days of the 48th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship, held on August 16 and 17 in Slovakia, delivered high-level performances at Boľkovce Airport near Lučenec following the Opening Ceremony. The championship, which kicked off on August 16, brought together 350 participants from 32 nations and runs until August 23. Previously, on August 11, the International Military Sports Council confirmed São Paulo, Brazil, as the host city for the CISM International Symposium 2027, a key international academic and institutional event. This followed the conclusion of the 68th World Military Pentathlon Championship in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, on August 8, where Algeria and Denmark claimed Obstacle Relay World Titles. On August 7, the individual competitions at the Pentathlon Championship saw Skonnord and Kimmel crowned World Champions after the Cross-Country Run decided the 2026 individual and team world titles.
