M6, also known as Métropole Télévision, is a privately owned company headquartered in France. As a tier 1 media tech buyer, it is part of the M6 Group. Founded in 1987, the company employs approximately 280 individuals and reported $668.6M in revenue as of 2024. It operates primarily as a private television broadcaster and radio provider in France.
On February 20, 2026, M6's "E=M6" science show, hosted by Mac Lesggy for 35 years, came under scrutiny for increasingly blurring the lines between scientific exploration and commercial promotion. Previously, on February 17, RTL Group-owned French broadcaster M6 announced plans for an AI-enabled €80 million cost-reduction program by 2030, alongside continued investment in its streaming platform. This initiative follows a sharp reduction in M6's operating profit in 2025, with savings projected from lower production, simplified processes, and reduced technical costs driven by AI. M6 also reported mixed full-year 2025 results, noting resilience in advertising despite a challenging political environment, but missing profitability targets due to a €35 million impairment related to Stéphane Plaza. Earlier, on January 29, M6 intended to relaunch two shows previously hosted by Stéphane Plaza, following his eviction. This development came shortly after Ligue 1+ made a €20 million offer to FIFA on January 28 for the broadcasting rights to the entire next World Cup, with 54 matches also slated to air on M6, indicating a global ambition for Ligue 1+.
