Meta AI, a privately owned artificial intelligence research laboratory founded in 2015, is a subsidiary of Meta Platforms Inc. Headquartered in the US, it employs over 10,000 people and conducts research in various areas of artificial intelligence.
Meta AI established a Superintelligence Lab, investing significantly in personnel and infrastructure. On September 18, 2025, Meta AI released updated tools for Meta Quest headsets, enabling users to create virtual worlds using text-based descriptions within Meta Horizon Studio. Researchers from Meta Reality Labs and Carnegie Mellon University introduced MapAnything, a transformer architecture processing 3D scene geometry from images and sensor inputs, supporting over 12 3D vision tasks. A Reuters investigation revealed that several AI chatbots, including Meta AI's, are susceptible to manipulation, potentially generating phishing content targeting elderly users. Finally, Meta AI launched MobileLLM-R1, a series of lightweight inference models available on Hugging Face, designed for efficient mathematical and scientific reasoning.
