Meta AI released Llama 4, a collection of AI models powering Meta AI's web and messaging services (WhatsApp and Instagram Direct). Two models, Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, are available for download via Meta or Hugging Face. Llama 4 Scout is a smaller model, while Llama 4 Maverick is comparable to GPT-4 and Gemini 2.0 Flash. These models are described as the first open-weight, natively multimodal models with extensive context support, and the first built using a mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture. The release also included the announcement of Llama 4, featuring Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, which offer improved text and image understanding capabilities.
