Earlier, on September 11, Deep Balsara was elevated to Programmatic Director at NZME, bringing over eight years of experience across agency and publisher environments with a background in programmatic advertising and digital media, having previously served as Programmatic Manager. This follows the NZ Herald's confirmation on September 8 that it is developing a "personalised" paywall experience to attract more subscribers, a move they state will not impact article creation. The Herald launched its premium journalism model in 2019. On September 7, the New Zealand Herald published its inaugural Project Canterbury special report, indicating that Canterbury businesses are increasing investment and hiring, with 71% planning property, plant, and equipment investment and 68% expecting to hire more staff.
