Founded in 2006 and employing approximately 190 individuals, the company specializes in broadcast television and radio. It operates as a national television station, focusing on news reporting, local drama production, and investigative journalism in Uganda.
Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda announced on July 28, 2026, the resumption of its broadcasting and publishing operations, including NTV Uganda, after a nearly month-long shutdown, following approval from President Yoweri Museveni. The media house stated that its television, print, radio, and digital platforms would gradually return to normal as it completes necessary operational arrangements. The situation had previously drawn commentary on press freedom, particularly regarding the "ordeal" faced by Daily Monitor and NTV. Earlier, on July 4, NMG shareholder Wafula Oguttu affirmed the company would not dismiss staff to appease government demands during the ongoing negotiations over the media outlets' closure. Concurrently, sources familiar with discussions indicated NMG was considering removing or reassigning its Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa as part of efforts to resolve the standoff with the Ugandan government. This followed NMG Uganda's directive on July 1 to its editorial teams to immediately suspend all online publishing and broadcasting as negotiations continued, leaving its major digital platforms silent in response to the shutdown.
