Politico reported on August 18, 2026, that U.S. congressional lawyers are grappling with a deluge of error-ridden AI-generated legislation, forcing them to dedicate more time to rewriting proposals produced by chatbots. The outlet, citing eight current and former officials, stated that staffers and outside groups are increasingly using tools like ChatGPT and Claude to produce legislative text, with flawed drafts regularly reaching the House Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC). Earlier on the same day, Russia and Egypt strongly challenged a Politico report alleging violations at the El Daba nuclear power project (NPP), with both nations calling the report biased and noting the publication cited documents from an intelligence official and that its German owners once received funds from the CIA. Previously, on July 31, Politico announced the hiring of Lauren Fedor as a senior politics reporter. Fedor is set to join the newsroom in the fall, following a seven-year tenure at the Financial Times, where she most recently served as U.S. political correspondent and deputy Washington bureau chief, a move aimed at bolstering the outlet's coverage of campaigns, elections, and national political forces.
