Clara Chan, a former Texas A&M Visualization program student, received a Visual Effects Society Award on March 17, 2026, for her animation work on “KPop Demon Hunters” and is scheduled to discuss her career and leadership in visual effects teams at the MSC Aggie Cinema’s Howdywood Film Festival. This follows “KPop Demon Hunters” clinching the Oscar for Best Animated Film on March 16, a project that involved a 500-member crew at Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver, Canada, including Keralite engineers Kurian Onnunny Samuel Binku Mathews and Joseph Tom Neriamparambil. Earlier, on March 15, former Bournemouth University student Fernando Morillo, who graduated in 2014 with a Master’s in Visual Effects, celebrated his contribution to the Sony Pictures Imageworks team that worked on “KPop Demon Hunters.” Separately, on March 10, animator Pierre Mariné, currently at Sony Pictures Imageworks, introduced AnimBeat, a Maya script designed to create timing based on beats.
