On August 21, 2026, Telecom Argentina proposed that Metrotel, an operator specializing in fiber-optic networks, acquire certain fixed infrastructure assets from Telefónica Móviles Argentina. This move is part of the measures Telecom Argentina has put forth to obtain regulatory approval for its $1.2 billion acquisition of Telefónica's Movistar unit in the country. Previously, on August 14, La Nacion reported that Telecom Argentina had proposed Metrotel as a possible buyer for the former Movistar activities it must divest to achieve regulatory compliance with the acquisition. The communications regulator Enacom and the competition authority ANC will decide if the sale of these fixed and mobile lines to Metrotel effectively resolves the competition concerns.
