This initiative leverages mih NET Berlin's Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) and Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB) deployments, which aim to reach over 500,000 households and businesses and are open to other providers. Previously, Telefonica Germany constructed 100 new mobile sites in North Rhine-Westphalia during the first eight months of the year, including a recent installation at the Steinbach Reservoir in the Euskirchen district, providing 5G, 4G, and 2G/GSM coverage. On August 25, the operator announced preparations for Oktoberfest, planning a temporary network upgrade that includes 21 additional mobile sites on the Theresienwiese and extending 5G antenna-equipped lamp posts on main access routes. This measure aims to bolster network capacity for an expected spike in demand from visitors and provide additional support for emergency services, utilizing the latest generation of system technology for enhanced performance and efficiency. This followed Telefonica Germany completing the nationwide shutdown of MMS in June and July 2026, consistent with Deutsche Telekom and 1&1, and after Vodafone Germany's withdrawal of the service in January 2023.
