The Basketball Tournament, also known as TBT, is a privately owned company headquartered in the United States. Founded in 2010, with approximately 70 employees, the company functions as the organizer and administrator of an annual 5-on-5 single-elimination basketball tournament held across the United States. It operates independently of any governing body or organization, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the tournament, including scheduling, marketing, and financial matters.
The Basketball Tournament (TBT), now in its 13th year, announced on May 29, 2026, a two-year extension with FOX Sports to air its new-look $2 million tournament. FOX Sports, which acquired the television rights to TBT in 2025, will broadcast 20 games this summer across FOX, FS1, and FS2, including the championship game. Previously, on May 24, TBT re-upped its media rights deal with Fox, extending coverage for two years to air 20 games across its channels, coinciding with a retooling of its format in Year 13. This follows news from May 21 that TBT secured the two-year media rights extension with Fox Sports while also undertaking its most significant format change since Jon Mugar founded the tournament in 2014.
