Founded in 1922 in Belgium as the Union Internationale du Yachting Automobile, and now employing approximately 30 individuals, the organization functions as the international governing body of powerboating, specializing in motorsports and cycling.
Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) sealed a multi-year agreement with Race World Offshore on April 29, 2026. This follows the UIM Awards, which celebrated achievements in powerboat racing on March 7, 2026. Earlier, on May 25, 2025, UIM participated in a high-level forum in Colombo, Sri Lanka, focused on popularizing powerboating to boost the nation's industrial and tourism sectors. Deputy Minister of Industries and Enterprise Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe attended the event alongside representatives from the Chamber of Marine Industries of Sri Lanka (CMISL) and the Lanka Powerboat Association.
