Changing taps – Flemington switches to Asahi, ending 25

Asahi Beverages has added Australia’s most famous racecourse, Flemington, to its growing list of pourage rights in a seven-year deal with the Victoria Racing Club. Asahi, which features brands such as Carlton Draught, Asahi Super Dry, Great Northern, Balter XPA and Somersby’s cider, has stepped in at the expense of rival brewer Lion, which has held beverage rights at Flemington for 25 years.

It was on Monday announced that Tentyris and Observer had been retired and would be split among Darley Australia's two bases. Tentyris, a son of Street Boss who won the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in spring before a first-up win in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) earlier this year, will stand at Kelvinside in New South Wales at a fee of $88,000 (including GST).
