Women's Tennis Association, also known as WTA, is a privately owned entity headquartered in the US. Founded in 1973, it employs approximately 730 individuals and reported $89.8M in revenue as of 2023. The organization operates as a tier 1 media tech buyer. Specializing in racquet sports, the WTA functions as the main organizing body of women's professional tennis, responsible for organizing and sanctioning numerous professional tennis tournaments throughout the year, including the four Grand Slam tournaments: Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. Additionally, the WTA oversees the WTA Tour, which represents the highest level of competition for women's tennis players.
On February 17, 2026, ahead of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Coco Gauff discussed her role as a global brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, the WTA's premier partner, acknowledging the brand's prestige. This follows the WTA and Mercedes-Benz establishing their long-term partnership in December. Previously, on February 12, at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, ranking scenarios were a key focus, with Victoria Mboko aiming for a Top 10 debut and Elena Rybakina targeting a rise to World No. 2 based on their results in the tournament's last eight. Earlier, on February 9, former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova and qualifier Camila Osorio advanced in Doha after their opponents, defending champion Amanda Anisimova and Emma Raducanu, retired in the third set of their respective matches. The Middle East swing of the WTA Tour, also driven by Mercedes-Benz, commenced the prior week with the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 500 event, where for the second year in a row, a player ranked outside the Top 100 claimed victory, leading to notable ranking shifts, including Bejlek climbing 63 spots and Oliynykova achieving a new career high.
