Xtreme Football League, also known as XFL, is a privately owned entity headquartered in the US. Founded in 2018 and operating in the spectator sports industry with approximately 500 employees, the XFL also functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The league is a US professional football league comprising eight teams located across the United States in mid-sized to major markets, each of which is served by at least one other major professional sports team.
The United Football League (UFL) announced late last month its official move out of Birmingham, Alabama, and Houston, Texas, with executive plans to expand into two more cities by 2028 and a strategic pivot for 2027, identifying Austin as a potential next market entry. Previously, on August 15, the UFL neared 50 player signings following its first set of preseason games, with 100 players earning workouts. This progression follows the league's success in sending players to the NFL, with over 60 UFL players earning NFL contracts last year and 75 in 2024. Earlier the same day, UFL co-owner Mike Repole responded to a letter from Protective Stadium, outlining a plan for a new stadium and development district in the Birmingham metro area by 2029. On August 14, 28 former UFL players suited up in six NFL Preseason games, with Tarik Black, Jacob Saylors, and Jake Bates making an impact in their 2026 debuts. The UFL had surpassed 45 signings by August 11, with three weeks remaining in training camp as several players began working out for NFL teams following the start of training camp in late July.
