On February 10, 2026, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) informed Parliament that Prasar Bharati received Rs 14,421 crore in budgetary support between 2020-21 and 2024-25. These funds were primarily allocated for staff salaries and infrastructure upgrades under the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme, with Doordarshan recording 372 crore viewers during this period. Previously, on January 28, five channels secured slots on Doordarshan's free-to-air DTH platform, DD FreeDish, following auctions to monetize unused capacity. These slots, which include GTC Punjabi and Movieplex under the MPEG-2 category, are valid for a two-month period from February 1 to March 31, 2026. Earlier, on January 8, Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Mamta Verma took charge as the new Director General of Doordarshan News, with a mandate to address challenges in preserving credibility and public trust while adapting to technological shifts and evolving audience consumption patterns.
