The European Fencing Confederation (EFC), a non-profit organization headquartered in Luxembourg, was founded on October 26, 1991, in Vienna, Austria. Initially known as the “Union Européenne d’Escrime,” the organization later adopted its current English name. The EFC updated its articles of confederation in 2009.
The 2025 World Fencing Championships in Tbilisi concluded on an unspecified date, with European nations performing well. France won the women's sabre event, and Hungary achieved podium finishes in both women's sabre and men's épée. France also secured gold in the women's épée event on the third medal day of the championships, with Marie-Florence Candassamy, Alexandra Louis, Marie Lauren Rembi, and Éloïse Vanryssel contributing to the win. The second day of the championships featured the first medal events. The fifteenth edition of “A Fil di Spada” is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Rome.
