Infinity Ward, a privately owned company headquartered in the US, operates as a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. Founded in 2002, the company employs approximately 680 individuals. Functioning as a computer game developer, Infinity Ward's business is exclusively focused on the development of games within the Call of Duty franchise. Their primary area of expertise is in the creation of first-person shooter games, and they are credited with developing the original Call of Duty and creating the popular Modern Warfare sub-series. As a development studio, Infinity Ward's services are centered on the design, programming, and artistic creation of these games for multiple platforms, including consoles and PC.
A founder recently claimed on March 5, 2026, that Activision had sought a Call of Duty game concept centered on Iran attacking Israel. This statement followed the White House's publication of a video promoting ongoing strikes on Iran, which incorporated footage and UI elements from the Call of Duty franchise. Earlier, on February 12, Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid, and Vince Zampella, co-creator of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment, reportedly discussed an "FPS version of Metal Gear" sometime after Metal Gear Solid 4's release. This discussion emerged shortly after Kojima revealed on February 11 that Zampella had provided substantial support in establishing Kojima Productions. Zampella, an FPS visionary and co-creator of Infinity Ward, passed away in a car accident on December 21, 2025, and was honored at the DICE Summit 2026 during a "Remembering A Titan" keynote.
