Call of Duty: Black Ops II, originally released in 2012, has been recognized for its role in defining the future of online multiplayer, influencing competitive, personalized, and connected gaming experiences. Previously, on July 30, a retrospective highlighted Treyarch's original Spider-Man game, noting its perceived shortcomings in replicating the visceral thrill and fluid movement of the web-slinging hero, despite being solidly made. Earlier, on June 18, Activision announced that Treyarch and Iron Galaxy are developing new PlayStation versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. These ports are slated for release on PS4 and PS5 in July 2026, marking the first time PlayStation players can run these titles natively on Sony hardware since the PS3 era.
