News Summary:

Canadian defender Keaton Verhoeff, who represented his country at World Juniors and World U18 this year, winning gold in January before captaining the younger age group in Slovakia, is set to be a high pick in the upcoming NHL draft on June 26-27, 2026. Previously, on June 18, Jonathan Toews announced his retirement, concluding a 16-year NHL career and an international career that began in 2006, making him the 24th—and youngest—member of the IIHF’s Triple Gold Club. On June 17, Caroline Harvey was selected first overall by the Vancouver Goldeneyes in the 2026 PWHL Draft, becoming the first American to go first overall since Taylor Heise in 2023. Earlier, on June 9, USA Hockey announced Duluth, Minnesota, will host the 2027 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship from April 22 to May 2. This followed the IIHF's announcement on June 8 of the groups for the 2027 men's ice hockey world championship, which notably excluded Russia. The federation stated that Russia's eligibility would be decided "on an event-by-event basis," with host Germany sharing a group with Sweden and defending champion Finland.
