Irish Rugby Football Union, also known as IRFU, is a privately owned entity headquartered in Ireland. Founded in 1879, it employs approximately 320 individuals and reported $85.7M in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as the governing body for rugby union on the island of Ireland, the organization oversees contact sports within its jurisdiction.
The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) appointed Smurfit Westrock as its official sustainability partner on February 1, 2026, to support its long-term strategy across representative levels and over 250 affiliated clubs in Ireland. This initiative follows the IRFU's expressed hope on November 20, 2025, that the new Nations Championship will boost broadcast revenue after the organization registered a €4.2 million loss. Earlier in November, on the 10th, the IRFU and the Football Association of Ireland renewed Aviva's naming rights deal for Aviva Stadium in Dublin for another five years, extending the sponsorship until 2030. Sources estimate the deal's value at approximately US$30.13 million over the five-year period. Previously, on October 7, 2025, the IRFU joined rugby unions from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, England, Scotland, France, and Italy in stating that players signing up for the breakaway R360 league, fronted by ex-England cap Mike Tindall, would be ineligible to play for their respective national teams.
