Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), a state-owned Irish public service broadcaster, was founded in 1926. Initially a radio service, it expanded to include regular television broadcasts in 1961. RTÉ produces and broadcasts programming across television, radio, and online platforms. As of 2023, it employs approximately 2490 people, generates less than $500 million in annual revenue, and maintains its headquarters in Donnybrook, Dublin, with additional offices throughout Ireland. Its longevity makes it one of the world's oldest continuously operating public service broadcasters.
Reports emerged concerning the departure of Kenny Jacobs as CEO of daa, the operator of Dublin and Cork airports, following an agreement with the board. This followed internal communications to daa employees confirming Jacobs' continued role as CEO amidst reports regarding his future. Separately, AIB employees will vote on proposed solutions to address concerns over a recent increase in required in-office work. In other news, criticism mounts against Irish insurance companies for not sufficiently lowering premiums despite recent reforms. Finally, Europe levied over €1.3 billion in GDPR fines during the first half of 2024, a 57% year-on-year increase, highlighting the importance of data protection practices and the recent appointment of Niamh Sweeney as Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner.
