KDDI acquired Sharp's former LCD screen factory in Sakai city to construct an AI data center using 100% renewable energy, targeting operational commencement by the end of March 2026. Separately, KDDI and Okinawa Cellular launched a unique "5G+" antenna icon in Japan, signifying high-speed 5G connections (Sub6/mmWave). They reported deploying 39,000 Sub6 base stations, the most in Japan, with further enhancements planned for FY2024 to improve coverage and speed. Furthermore, KDDI and J-POWER Group established another virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for onshore wind power generation, this time for a plant in Hokkaido, following a previous agreement for the New Minami Osumi Wind Farm. A separate VPPA with J-POWER will support the construction of a 51.5-megawatt onshore wind farm in Kaminokuni-cho, Hokkaido.
