News Summary:

Mediacorp's CNA news channel expanded its global footprint on March 10, 2026, doubling its reach to over 180 million homes and connected devices worldwide. This expansion, powered by strategic partnerships across Europe and North America, follows the rollout of its free ad-supported television (FAST) channel, now known as CNA Originals, into the Western hemisphere two years prior. Earlier, on February 24, Henry Kwek, chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for National Development, stated during a Budget debate that public service media, including outlets like CNA, requires adequate and sustainable funding to counter AI-generated disinformation. On February 15, Mediacorp secured the broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announcing it will air more than triple the free-to-air matches compared to the last edition. This move marks a departure from the three-way partnership with local telcos StarHub and Singtel for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, a decision that surprised some analysts.
